Shinhidaka Town is located in southern Hokkaido, the northernmost of JapanŐs main islands.
Against a backdrop of the Hidaka Mountains, the town faces the Pacific Ocean and is blessed with a rich natural environment encompassing many rivers and hilly areas.
Its marine climate brings mild weather to the area, with less snowfall than other parts of snowy Hokkaido.
These natural surroundings have helped its agriculture develop, and the town is especially known as a race horse producing area, turning out many historically fine horses.
It has also been prosperous in fisheries, and Hidaka Kombu (kelp) is especially well known nationwide. With beautiful scenery and rich sightseeing resources, the town attracts many tourists each year.
